When Matthew met Sarah

CANTERBURY

We would like to share our wonderful experience of meeting on Find Someone (FSO) and getting married only 10 months later...

Matthew was initially very skeptical about Internet dating, but in 2011 he finally decided to put a basic profile on FSO. Nothing really happened until he upgraded to gold status and decided to consider meeting women outside Dunedin. He also worked out how to express in writing who he was and what kind of person he was looking for.

In February 2013, Sarah had just returned to Christchurch from overseas and decided to sign up to FSO to meet some new people. She put up some lovely profile photos, concisely answered all the sections, and was specific that she wanted to be 'friends first and see what developed'… Famous last words!

Matthew noticed Sarah's profile and 'sent a smile' to gauge interest. Although Matthew wasn't openly showing his photo, Sarah noticed that he was looking for some articulate and intelligent and was a keen skier, enjoyed the outdoors, and played the saxophone. Sarah smiled back within 2 hours (indicating she was actually interested in the process) and asked very politely to see his photos so Matthew obliged and commenced messaging her.

After a few weeks, Sarah pointed out that FSO messaging wasn't the same as talking in person, but as they lived in different cities, meeting in person involved an 8 hour round trip. Sarah suggested trialing a 'Skype date' to solve this problem. Their first Skype date lasted for 90 minutes, so both felt that things could progress if they eventually met in person.

11 days later, Sarah made the trip to Dunedin to meet Matthew. In consideration of her effort, he felt she deserved to have a decently planned first date - including the choice of numerous venues, right through to the music played in the car between venues. They completely hit it off, and their first “official” date lasted for 12 HOURS!

Sarah and Matthew parted company that weekend knowing that they had each met someone extremely special. As with all good love stories, one thing led to another. Just short of four weeks after their initial Skype date, Sarah moved down to live in Dunedin, and the two lovebirds began planning their wedding!

They were married on 23 February 2014 at a beautiful ceremony in Christchurch surrounded by loving family and friends.

Thank you FSO for providing the forum for two busy professionals to meet. We encourage those looking for their true partner in life to persist in using this medium - provided you know who you are, what you are looking for and are honest about what you write, it really can work. Love truly is the greatest gift, and the beauty of the soul.
